What is hyaluronic acid ?
Hyaluronic acid is one of the most powerful moisturising molecule that that is used in cosmetics. It was discovered in 1934. It is a combination of a uronic acid and aminoglycan. Hyaluronic acid is abundant in the dermis of young skin, but its quantity decreases with age : the skin then appears more damaged, with more wrinkles.
Effects
- Antistatic : reduces static electricity by neutralizing the electrical charge on the surface.
- Humectant : Maintains the water content of a cosmetics in its packaging and on the skin.
- Moisturiser : it increases the moisture content of the skin and it helps keeping it soft and smooth.
- Skin care agent : Keeps the skin in good condition
There are two types of hyaluronic acid :
- Low molecular weight : it helps facilitates the absorption of nutrients and hydrates quickly. The serum penetrates your skin very quickly. It acts in the layers of the epidermis where it retains water for a better hydration and a plumping effect on the surface.
- High molecular weight : It acts on the surface of the skin because it cannot penetrate the epidermis. It therefore forms a protective veil against dehydration. It is used, for example, to plump up the fine lines and wrinkles.
What is sodium hyaluronate :
Sodium hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid. This active ingredient is appreciated for its moisturising and plumping action on the skin. It is a natural component present in the skin. It easily penetrates the epidermis, and is then able to bing a large amount of water, up to 20 times its weight. For this reason, it can be found in many cosmetics such as anti-aging care products, moisturising creams or even foundation products.
