Focus on Hydreïs

HydreïsTM is produced from an exotic bacteria strain from Martinique found in a soil subject to extreme hydric stress. The strain produces an exopolysaccaride (EPS) able to maintain organic stocks and water content. HydreïsTM is obtained by selective hydrolysis of the EPS. It naturally restructures the skin, can repair cutaneous barrier and minimise transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Mechanism of action of Hydreïs

HydreïsTM acts on the skin through two mechanisms:

▶ It repairs the cutaneous barrier by stimulating the synthesis of involucrin and filaggrin, essential proteins for stratum corneum structure.

▶ It restores skin hydration by stimulating the synthesis of filaggrin, precursor of the natural moisturising factors (NMF) and the synthesis of aquaporin-3, essential channels for water homeostasis.

Cutaneous barrier repair (in vivo test)

A panel of volunteers (19 Caucasian people, average age: 50 years old) applied on the forearm, twice a day, a cream with 1% of HydreïsTM or a placebo. Cutaneous barrier repair is measured by TEWL variation before and after stripping each morning of D1 and D3.

Results: HydreïsTM efficiently restores skin barrier function.

Restoration of cutaneous structure and water homeostasis (ex vivo test)

Skin explants (54 year-old Caucasian woman) were delipidated to alter the cutaneous barrier, treated only 1 time with a placeboor a cream with 1% of HydreïsTM. Five days after treatment it was immunolabelled (filaggrin in green / aquaporin-3 in red / nuclei in blue).

Results: HydreïsTM restores water homeostasis via stimulation of aquaporin-3 synthesis.
