Glycosyl Trehalose is made in Japan and forms a protective film on the skin, protecting it from aging and giving it radiance. The skin is therefore softer and smoother to the touch.
It is an emulsion stabilizer that promotes the emulsification process and improves the stability and shelf life of the emulsion. It is also a film-forming agent, which provides a continuous film on the skin, hair, or even nails.
We find this ingredient in 0.05% of cosmetics, including in our moisturizing serum and our Best Seller, the New Angance Mask .
Trehalose is a sugar found in plants, fungi, and invertebrate animals.
It is considered useful due to its rehydrating and water-binding properties, as well as its antioxidant powers. It is believed that sugar forms a gel phase when cells become dehydrated, which prevents disruption of internal cell organelles by holding them in position. Rehydration then allows normal cellular activity to resume without the major and fatal damage that would normally follow a dehydration/rehydration cycle. In other words, trehalose, when applied topically, can allow the skin to retain moisture it would otherwise lose, creating dry skin and potentially increasing the signs of aging.
A suppressive effect of the simultaneous application of Glycosyl Trehalose on the formation of rough surfaces with SDS (Sodium dodecyl sulfate) solution was observed. Patches containing water, 10% SDS solution or 10% SDS solution with 20% Glycosyl Trehalose were applied to the inner side of the arm for 2 hours. Images of the skin surface were recorded by a VH-7000 HD digital microscope (X50)
