A shrub native to North America, with the botanical name Hamamelis virginiana, witch hazel. Growing up to 4 meters tall, witch hazel has rough, alternating leaves and a short petiole. Its yellow, four-petaled flowers appear at the same time as the fruit. The leaves and young stems are used for their therapeutic properties.
- Therapeutics:
Witch hazel is used for various conditions of the venous system: varicose veins and spider veins, heavy legs or even venous congestion. Witch hazel has astringent properties, which helps tighten skin tissues, vasoconstrictor properties which strengthen blood circulation in the veins and anti-inflammatory properties.
This plant can be used alone or with adjuvants that reinforce or complement its action. "Combined with other plants such as red vine, it promotes blood circulation and improves venous return." These are the main ingredients you will find in our revitalizing hydrogel patches.
- Tonic:
Known for its toning and stimulating properties, witch hazel extract stimulates blood microcirculation, instantly relieving tired, dark-circled eyes with marked skin. It is also used to reduce the effect of heavy legs and reduce edema.
- Soothing and softening:
Highly versatile, witch hazel extract helps soothe skin irritations, sunburn, and minor burns. Applied as a mask or eye patch, as in our product, witch hazel extract deeply moisturizes dry skin and protects it from drying out.
- Astringent and purifying:
In addition to softening and soothing dry and sensitive skin, witch hazel extract is also an essential treatment for combination to oily skin.
Its purifying and astringent properties tighten pores, regulate sebum and fight against the appearance of imperfections.
The dried leaves, bark, and twigs are used in witch hazel cosmetics. The various galenic forms of the plant (infusion, water, mother tincture, etc.) are actually a mixture of parts of this shrub.
